IKeja Golf Club to host Lagos State First Lady Outstanding Golf Awards


The Ikeja Golf club will host the Lagos State First Lady Outstanding Golf Awards as well as an 18-hole competition.


The awards and competition which was hold on Wednesday, February 12 till Friday, February 14, will feature men, women and children from clubs across Lagos State.

The wife of the Lagos State governor, Dame Abimbola Fashola, will be presenting awards to those who have made outstanding contributions to the growth and development of golf in Nigeria and Lagos State especially.

There would be awards in six categories which include – Outstanding Golf Professional, Outstanding Golf Promoter Award, Outstanding Golf Service Award and Outstanding Award to  Indigenous Corporate Organisation.

Top on the card of the roll call is Otunba Olusola Adekanola, the Chairman of CMCL Golf Tours Limited, who not only plays golf but has been in the forefront of promoting golf in the country. His annual CMCL Open is the longest running pro-am in West-Africa.

Adekanola will be awarded with the Outstanding Golf Promoter award.

Meanwhile, Peter Akakasiaka will be awarded the Outstanding Golf Pro Award. Currently the resident pro attached to Royal Valley golf course in Offa, Kwara state, Akakakasiaka was the face of golf in the 70’s and 80’s .Even as a senior tour player now, Akakasiaka is still one of the few to be reckoned with. Today, it is on record that Akakasiaka is the only Nigerian so far that has played at the British Open.

The Indigenous Organisation Award will go to Elizade Nigeria founded by Chief Michael Ade-Ojo.

Others who will be receiving awards in the different categories include Chief Mathew Aderiye, Dr Nike Marinho, and Guinness Nigeria Limited.
