Man, 20, builds drone in Edo state

A 20 year-old man, Aghogho Ajine has successfully flown a drone he single-handedly built in Benin City, Edo state.

Ring Road, in the city centre was converted Ajine’s runway as he tested the drone to the rancorous support of a crowd of onlookers.

The incident caused traffic congestion, as people gathered to watch the flying drone. The drone, controlled by a hand-held device, flew through the sky and landed as directed by Ajine.

However, officials of Edo State traffic agency later tried to disrupt proceedings when they arrested the man for causing traffic congestion, a development that did not go down well with many of the people who watched in amazement as the drone flew under the control of Ajine.

The angry crowd had to force the traffic officials to return the money they had collected from Ajine, allegedly for causing traffic congestion.

Ajine, in his remarks, said that he has never been to any school, adding that he built the drone from personal research at home.

“I am from Delta State. I have not been to any school before. My house is my school. I learned it at home from my research. I used plywood to build it,” he said.

A few weeks after Nigeria Air Force engineers unveiled the first unmanned drone built in the country.
