Trader,34, rapes 9-year-old girl in Lagos

34 year-old shoe seller, AzubuikeEboh, has been charged before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, by the police from State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti, Yaba, for allegedly raping a nine year-old girl.

The accused, a resident of 62, Zion street, Sari-Iganmu, was alleged to have committed the act at 2pm, on January 27.

A police source said that the accused who lives on the same street with the victim (name witheld), went to her house and sent her to buy cigarette, and that when the little girl  return from where she had gone to buy the cigarette, she did did not find the accused but traced him to his house where he raped her.

The source said the victim however reported the scenario to her mother, who later reported the matter at a local Police station, before the matter was transferred to SCID.

The accused was charged on one count charge of defilement of minor. The offence according to the prosecutor, Inspector Richard Odigie, is punishable under section 137 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011.

The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Odigie urged the court to remand the accused according to section 115 of Administration of Criminal Justice of Lagos state, 2011, pending the time that the Directorates of Public Prosecution will issued an advice on the matter.
