IAAF Indoor Championships: Nigeria ranked 33rd

Nigeria have been ranked joint 33rd best with Portugal, Switzerland, Romania and Turkey on the IAAF placing table following another dismal performance at the recently concluded 15th IAAF World Indoor Championships held last weekend in Sopot, Poland.
Nigeria garnered a total of five points courtesy of the women’s 4x400m relay team who placed sixth in the final and Gloria Asumnu’s seventh placing in the 60m final.

The IAAF Placing Table assigns eight points to the first placed athlete in an event, seven for second, six for third, five for fourth, four for fifth, three for sixth, two for seventh and one for the eighth placed athlete.

The Sopot event was one of Nigeria’s worst outings in the history of the championships.

The worst outing was however recorded in Birmingham in 2003 when Nigeria placed last with only one point while the best placing was achieved in Paris, France in 1997 with 40 points which ensured a sixth placed finish.
