Newly appointed Minister Of Defence resigns

Newly appointed Minister of Defence, Aliyu Gusau, has resigned from office.

Gusau made his resignation known on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 barely a week old after his appointment on March 5 by President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to Sahara Reporters, top echelon of the Nigerian military yesterday refused to have a joint meeting with the new Minister of Defense and his deputy Musikilu Obanikoro, a situation that triggered his resignation.

Upon his appointment, it was rumoured that the retired general accepted to serve in President Jonathan’s cabinet under the condition that the nation’s service chiefs and other security heads would be placed under his supervision.
