Police recover N13.6m generators from robbers

The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Lagos has said that it recovered stolen generators worth N13.6m from arrested 26 armed robbery suspects on Wednesday.
FSARS Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, said this during a ceremony to decorate 25 police officers of the command who were promoted to new ranks.

Ezike said, “On February 20 2014, a 40ft container on Mack Truck with number plate, XT 737 SMK, loaded with generators worth N13.6m, en route the Alaba International Market Lagos disappeared. It was driven by one Abbas Mustapha.

“Unknown to the owner of the goods, Mustapha had conspired with a gang of hijackers and diverted the goods to an unknown destination. The empty container and truck was later found abandoned along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“Mustapha was trailed to his hideout and upon his confession; three other members of his gang were arrested. 1,501 generators, out of a total of 1530, were recovered. Efforts are on to locate the rest.”

Ezike also said the FSARS had recovered five vehicles which had been stolen from Kogi, Ogun, Ondo and Lagos states.

He said, “On January 26 2014, six robbers were arrested in their hideouts. A blue Toyota Camry, marked, no ABC 551 JR, was also recovered from the gang.

Ezike called on members of the public whose cars had been robbed in recent times to visit the FSARS with proofs of ownership.
