MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro: Which is Better?

If you are in the market for a new MacBook, choosing between the Air and the Pro can be a little confusing but with clear objective of what you need the MacBook for, then you shouldn’t break a sweat when deciding. Apple laptops are one of the most efficient laptops in the market today with top notch specs and high efficiency ratio. Here are some pointers to consider:
  1. PRICE: It's no news that Apple products are high end products. The MacBook Air is a lot cheaper than the MacBook Pro. Depending on your budget, you can deicide to get either one. The Air is available in 2 separate configurations - 128GB and 256GB. Both are cheaper than that of the Pro.
  2. WEIGHT and SIZE: Over the years, the MacBook Air has been known to be lighter and smaller in size than the Pro. With the latest release, the difference has faded so much that the difference between Pro and Air is not too significant. The MacBook Air has a weight of 1.35kg while the MacBook pro weighs 1.37kg.
  3. PROCESSOR SPEED: It may seem like the Air has 2 pros over the Pro but not in this case. The processor speed and power is where the MacBook Pro overshadows the Air. The MacBook Pro has a processing power between 2.3GHz to 3.5GHz depending on the year while the MacBook Air’s processing power is between 1.8GHz to 2.2GHz. Without doubt, the Pro can handle more processes and operation at a faster speed than the Air.
  4. RAM ( Random Access Memory): Similar to the performance gap in the processor speed, the PRO has a better RAM configuration than the Air. In as much as they both have an 8GB RAM memory, test shows that the Pro’s RAM runs at 2133MHz compare to the Air’s 1600MHz. Also, some MacBook Pro comes with 16GB RAM configuration making it superfast and more efficient than the MacBook Air. Whether you opt for the Air or Pro, you might not notice the difference in performance if you just do things like surf the web, send email, watch movies compared to when you play games or launch intensive programs like animation software or a web spider to crawl large websites, in this case the MacBook Pro will outperform the MacBook Air.
  5. BATTERY LIFE:  This feature seem to favour the MacBook Air. Apple tech suggests that the MacBook Air can last upto 12 hours of intensive web browsing compare to the 10 hours of the MacBook Pro. The different in performance is not that huge. Also, to handle such fast processes and operations tells on the battery life.
  6. DISPLAY and SCREEN RESOLUTION: Also one of the major difference between the two MacBooks, the Air doesn’t have retina display hencing leading to low pixel density compare to the Pro. The screen resolution of the Air is 1440 x 900 pixels while the Pro is 2560 x 1600 pixels. If you want the best picture or video display quality, the MacBook Pro is the way to go.
  7. STORAGE: With both models running on SSD ( Solid State Drives), you can be assured of superfast file transfer, flash speed in booting and storage of files and documents safely. The MacBook Air comes in 128GB and 256GB, while the MacBook Pro comes in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. Custom orders sometimes see the Air with 512GB and the Pro with 1TB.

Regardless of which model you decide to buy, the MacBook is a must-have laptop.
